Case 4 - Africa

Africa

Trans-Atlantic Triangular Trade

The Portuguese had a trade system was to bring slaves from Africa to the Americas in trade of raw materials and then manufacture goods back to Africa making a cycle.
(note: Portugal used Brazil as a colony and exploited the their people with high prices to buy something from Portugal, low prices to when selling to Portugal, and embargo with other countries.)

AFRICA (Slaves)>>>>  AMERICAS (Raw Material)>>>> PORTUGAL(Manufactured goods) back to AFRICA

Hotel Rwanda - Perspectives

The Conflict: After the Hutu and the Tutsi sign a peace treaty with the U.N. support, the Tutsi Rebel Army unexpectedly murders the Hutu president. In response to counter-attack this tragedy, the Radio Television Libre de Mille Collines (RTLM) starts killing the Tutsi and starting a genocide in Rwanda ending up leaving more then 800 thousand people dead.

Hutu Perspective
The Hutu excluded the Tutsi in the past, but joined after 1990. Therefore, they lived decided to live in peace with the Tutsi before the Rebel Army murdered the president. From that moment on, the hatred of the Hutu came back seeking Tutsi blood. In the movie, the Hutu even refer the Tutsi as cockroaches. However, these are only extreme Hutus, others as Paul, the main character in Hotel Rwanda, have no bad intentions against the Tutsi, but just to stop the bloodshed.

Tutsi Perspective
The movie gives no perspective of the Rebel Army, but they give of the Tutsi citizens. They are afraid and being judged by only being part of a race. In some part of the movie, a little girl knows she is going to be killed, so she screams: ''Please don't kill me, I swear I won't be a Tutsi again.'' This shows the innocence of the child and her desperate statement to survive. I imagine how traumatizing it is for a child to go though a near death experience like that.

Rest of the World Perspective
The rest of the World had no intentions of intervening between the fight, i mean not a fight, the genocide. In the movie, some troops from other countries came only to rescue Europeans. Another quote from the movie is ''The rest of the world hears the TV: ''massacre in Rwanda'',  say: ''Oh, thats horrible'', and go back to eat their dinners. This demonstrates the many people doesn't care about other people dieing in other places and have no will to influence or help.
